East Asia in Wisconsin Library Program Kits

The Hustisford Community Library was awarded a grant by the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) to encourage Wisconsin libraries to augment our collection with East Asia-related materials. We hope that it will promote understanding of East Asian histories and cultures.  CEAS partnered with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, the Wisconsin Library Association, and the Cooperative Children’s Book Center to plan and promote the new program, which was launched in August.

Hustisford Community Library’s grant was one of 38 libraries across Wisconsin. For our grant, we have created kits, each containing 2 books and one dvd (or tv drama), which can be checked out for 4 weeks. Each kit has a theme, highlighting a different aspect of East Asian culture.

Children Kits:
Food
Family
Mythology
Animals
Cultural Barriers

Young Adult:
Food Drama
Arts
Military

Adult:
Death
Romance
Religion

Kits can be found above the new books in the children’s section, or underneath the New books for the YA and Adult kits.

The Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) is the focal point connecting East Asia to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. One of the UW-Madison’s eight federally funded area studies National Resource Centers, CEAS is dedicated to all aspects of research, education and outreach related to China, Japan, and Korea. More details about the East Asia in Wisconsin Library Program can be found on the CEAS website: https://eastasia.wisc.edu/ or check out this press release below.
